The Glass Orchestra, 1981, in a workshop at Purchase College. From the cassette release VERRILLON (1982). Here, the four of us are each playing glass tubes with different reeds: clarinet reed, duck call, duduk reed, small double reed. The GO at this time was Eric Cadesky, Miguel Frasconi, Marvin Green, Paul Hodge.
Miguel Frasconi is a composer/performer who uses laptop, analog electronics, keyboards, and a menagerie of glass objects to create music from a uniquely imagined tradition. His glass instruments are struck, blown, stroked, dropped, and otherwise coaxed into sounding, while his electronics come from a world of cross-modulations and inter-dependent vibrations.Miguel has worked closely with composers John Cage, Jon Hassell, James Tenney, Morton Subotnick, and has collaborated with many choreographers, including modern dance pioneer Anna Halprin, and the acclaimed choreographer Alonzo King. He was a founding member of The Glass Orchestra, Toronto's internationally renowned new music ensemble featuring all glass instruments (1977- 1986), and San Francisco's sound-sculpture band, Möbius Operandi (1991- 1996). He presently works with the chamber ensemble Ne(x)tworks and teaches electronic music at Bard College.
